Elspeth Piggott

Soprano

Elspeth Piggott is a versatile and expressive British soprano, widely recognised for her clarity of tone, musical sensitivity, and communicative stage presence.

Since her very first taste of the profession, understudying I Fagiolini’s immersive theatre production Betrayal in 2015, Elspeth has been captured by the dual art forms of music and drama, and has since pursued this pairing in her work, in both traditional opera as well as newly devised works. She has played Sophie in the staged Bach St Matthew / Sophie Scholl Passion, from theatre maker / director Ross McGregor with Deutscher Chor London, Southwark Cathedral 2022; understudied Charlie in Anna Appleby’s Drought with the BBC Philharmonic 2022; Hermia in Purcell’s The Fairy Queen with Hampstead Garden Opera 2024; and as Second Woman in Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas with Barokksolitene at Den Ny Opera Festival 2023. In 2025/26 she revived the role on tour with I Fagiolini at Lammermuir Festival, Tetbury Music Festival and at Kings Place, as well as making her English National Opera debut in the chorus of Angel’s Bone by Du Yun.

Passionate, too, about ensemble singing, Elspeth is equally in demand as a choral and consort singer, with credits including Dunedin Consort, Irish Baroque Orchestra, The BBC Singers, Gabrieli Consort, Arcangelo, Kantos, The Sixteen, The Norwegian Soloist Choir and the Netherlands Radio Choir, as well as her own ensemble, The Lyons Mouth. This year she made her solo debut with Dunedin Consort in Bach’s St Matthew Passion, Easter 2026.

Elspeth joined Ars Nova Copenhagen in 2026.
