Experience the voices and moods of Christmas from the Nordic countries when Ars Nova Copenhagen joins forces with Herning Church Boys’ Choir for a traditional Christmas concert. This concert, titled “Christmas in the North,” offers a respite from the holiday rush and a journey through Nordic Christmas traditions.
Ars Nova Copenhagen, led by Sofi Jeannin, together with Herning Church Boys’ Choir’s conductor Severin Korsgaard, has curated a program reflecting the Nordic roots shared by both choirs. In preparation for the concert, Ars Nova has visited Herning Church Boys’ Choir to collaborate and refine their musical interplay.
The concert invites reflection on which songs warm Swedish hearts during Christmas and which stories are told by the fireplace in Norway. Are Sibelius’ Christmas songs the most beautiful in all of the Nordics, or do the Danish Christmas hymns, with their simple beauty, embody the deepest Christmas spirit? These questions, and many more, will be explored during the concert.
Ars Nova Copenhagen has established itself as one of the world’s leading vocal ensembles, having toured more than 40 countries. At the same time, Herning Church Boys’ Choir has made a name for itself as one of Denmark’s prominent boys’ choirs.
