Reformation – Klang Festival

Based on the church space, Lars Lundehave Hansen has created REFORMATION, a surround sound work for electronics and choir, written for the vocal group Ars Nova Copenhagen.

Speakers and singers are placed around the space based on the church’s acoustic form, which is an integral part of the work. The choir forms a vortex of choral movements and the electronics gather and accelerate the work’s pulse. With catharsis as its ideal, REFORMATION seeks to convey the intense and unexpected, the overwhelming and exhausting. The work works with refraction on all levels and creates surprising sequences and disharmonious juxtapositions, where harmony is broken into smoldering surfaces of noise. Like a rumble from the earth’s core that reaches for the vault of heaven.
